Tuckett There is a growing awareness among New Testament scholars that the theory of Markan priority is not as securely established as it was once thought to be. Although there have always been isolated voices raised against the consensus of opinion, such questionings received a major impetus with the publication of W.R. Farmer’s book, The Synoptic Problem (New York: Macmillan; London: Collier-Macmillan) in 1964. Farmer proposed that
